you can fish

There are plenty of fishing spots along both the North Arm and South Arm of the Hunter River.  Park your car in one of two carparks and walk or cycle to the spot of your choice.   Please help these estuarine wetlands (mangroves and saltmarsh) stay healthy places for fish and crustaceans to live, by taking all man-made rubbish with you.  You can tip unused bait into the river, but not the plastic bag it came in.

Fish and crustaceans recorded in the Hunter estuary in recent years.                                                                      Make sure you comply with current fishing regulations on fish sizes and bag limits.

Green weed bait tank.  Fishers of black fish should note that we are trailing a green weed bait tank to see if weed growth rate can keep up the fishermen requirements. By providing green weed from the tank on Ash Island, we hope to reduce disturbance of shorebirds, particularly migratory shorebirds, by fishers as they gather green weed from wetland areas.
